Inspiration

People often underestimate how much casual conversation during group study or work sessions hurts productivity. What feels like “just a quick chat” compounds into lost time, increased stress, guilt, and burnout. At the same time, group sessions are essential for motivation, collaboration, and preventing isolation. Existing productivity tools focus on individuals, but distractions in group study are a shared problem. ChirpGuard is built to solve that.

What it does

ChirpGuard is an AI-powered study companion that helps group study sessions stay focused, accountable, and healthy without killing collaboration.

During a study session, ChirpGuard listens to group conversations in real time and transcribes them using speech-to-text. Those conversations are analyzed to determine whether they are relevant to the group’s chosen study topic. When discussions drift off-topic for too long, Chirp — our interactive mascot — steps in with friendly voice reminders to help the group refocus.

Group members can:

  • View a live group focus meter during sessions
  • Vote on who caused a distraction when off-topic chatter is detected
  • Participate in instant redemption challenges to recover points by proving they’re still locked in
  • Track individual and group focus scores over time
  • Review session insights and recommendations to improve future study habits

Who ChirpGuard Supports

ChirpGuard is designed to support a wide range of learners, especially those who struggle with focus, overstimulation, or group dynamics. This includes:

How we built it

ChirpGuard is a full-stack web application with a focus on real-time feedback, accessibility, and wellbeing.

Frontend Built with React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS

Backend & Data

  • MongoDB is used to store user profiles and session data
  • ElevenLabs powers both speech-to-text (conversation transcription) and text-to-speech (Chirp’s real-time voice feedback)
  • Gemini analyzes conversation transcripts to determine topic relevance and generate session insights and study recommendations
