ClassConnect is a proof of concept classroom portal that allows teachers to interact with students in a fun and user friendly way.
Inspiration
Many members in our group all bonded over our frustrating experiences with Google Classroom during the peaks of the pandemic. The site would be difficult to go through, and our teachers especially oftentimes struggled. We created this site to help people who struggle with complicated technology use, a way to have many resources such as quizzes, articles and mini lessons, all for free.
What it does
Class Connect is a website which allows both students and teachers to have a wide range of materials and resources, in a very simple way to navigate through the website. Class Connect offers a vast range of assignments and unique courses students can take, as well as quizzes and classroom chats for students who need help. Through short and informative lessons, students can learn in a simple but efficient way. Quizzes and Assignments can be graded by teachers, which allows teachers to track how well students are doing in the course.
How we built it
We built ClassConnect using the languages, HTML, JavaScript and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge we ran into was making our Class Chat. It was very hard to program a way for students to communicate with each other on our website, and have that information stay in the chat log, rather than go away after the user leaves the screen or site. We also found it hard to create the Fun Quiz's score tracker for teachers to access. While this process was not necessarily hard, it was very tedious, and took much more time than expected.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our group was very proud of the Assignments page, especially with the fact of how students can submit pdf's which will be seen by teachers. Our group expected this process to be long, but we ended up finishing very quickly. Our group was also very proud of finishing the Class Chat. As mentioned in the "Challenges" question, it was extremely hard to make this section of our code appealing for users, and even harder to code a way for students to chat with each other, without having the information disappear after the user left the tab.
What we learned
Our group learned a lot more about how to code in HTML, and collaborate with peers for a longer period of time. We learned how long the process of coding can take, as well as new techniques we can use to make the process faster.
What's next for ClassConnect
We plan to promote ClassConnect with our friends and teachers, to hopefully have locals in our community using this site to easily navigate through many resources.
