Inspiration
We all have our own unique habits. Some good, and other not so good. We wanted to create a simple web application that allows users to keep track of whatever it may be.
What it does
Our applications allows users to create / log into their accounts and keep daily track of their habits. You are able to keep streaks going through daily check-ins, but if you relapse or forget to check in on a day, your counter will be reset.
We hope that this applications helps keeps users accountable, and believe that it is simple enough for a broad audience to use.
How we built it
We first designed this application via Figma, and planned out the structure there, as well as the various pages. We built this app using the MERN for the front and backend of our project. Languages used included JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
Challenges we ran into
Getting the back end to link the front and receive the information inputted by users proved to be troublesome for us. We had a little experience with MongoDB, but linking the two together still proved to be something we all had to work together for. In addition, the 24 hour time limit also was something we had to be conscious of and plan around since we had to prioritize what functionalities we wanted (since we weren't able to work the full 24 hours).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We knew that we couldn't accomplish as much as we wanted in a 24 hour time frame, but we were happy to have completed a full and functioning stack application. We wanted to do so and reinforce our knowledge in that since it's still a new thing for us. We believed that we were able to accomplish what our web app was meant for.
What we learned
We were able to reinforce our knowledge on the MERN stack and through the relearning process, found deeper understanding of each of the frameworks / tools. Through our experience, we feel that we'll be able to better use these in future applications.
What's next for Cold Turkey
We would like to be able to add deeper functionalities, such as the option to add multiple habits for users to keep track of (which we simply didn't have the time to implement), as well as analyzing their own history / data. And of course, we would like to keep cleaning up the UI, and allow users easy ways to navigate the application.
What categories eligible for
We believe our project is eligible for the UI/UX Design category, as we used Figma to plan our design together. We also believe our project is eligible for best startup, since we have a working application as is, but given more time we would be able to implement more features that would be appealing to users.
