Inspiration

In India, the share of elderly people is more than 10% of the population, and among them, one out of every four elder person is lonely. This is due to the erosion of our traditional values to stay with our old parents. Their children leave them to succeed in their lives, forgetting that their parents need their love, care and support. Due to these reasons, a lot of them suffer from depression and related disorders.

What it does

Companion Match is an all-in-one solution for seniors looking for companionship, care, and support. With its easy-to-use interface and wide range of features, Companion Match is the perfect app for anyone looking to improve their quality of life and make meaningful connections. It is an innovative and user-friendly app designed to bridge the gap between the elderly and the younger generation. Some features of Companion Match are:

  1. Companion Match offers a wide range of services, including the ability to find a companion who can provide social interaction and emotional support. Whether you're looking for someone to chat with or someone to accompany you on walks, our app makes it easy to find the perfect match.

  2. Companion Match also offers a unique mentorship program, connecting seniors with college students who can provide guidance and support as they learn new skills. College students can earn certificates of social internships, which will help them stand out when applying for jobs.

How we built it

Flutter SDK using Dart Language is used to develop the application's front end.

Challenges we ran into

I was trying to develop a chat functionality in the application but it gave a lot of errors and the application wasn't able to 'build' on running the code, so I had to step back from this feature.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud that I could develop all the applications from scratch during the hacking period with a good User Interface.

What we learned

I learnt how to resolve bugs in widget testing of the Flutter apps.

What's next for Companion Match

  1. We will be adding medication reminders that allow immediate family members to record and schedule personalized voice messages so that they do not miss out on any medicines.

  2. We will also offer the option for the immediate family members to track the location of their loved ones suffering from Alzheimer's disease and dementia, through just their phones.

  3. Multi-language support Some of our old buddies may not be as comfortable communicating in the English language. So to ease out the navigation through our app, we will be providing multi-language support in various languages such as Hindi, Bengali and Marathi.
