Inspiration

Our inspiration was the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Many lives are lost unnecessarily, many cannot go to school because of technology constraints, social lives have been lost, and fake news about Covid has been rampant. To combat all of this, we created CoTerminator.

What it does

CoTerminator has many unique features and parts. First, it has a diagnosis machine that can predict whether or not you have Covid-19 using a series of questions. Second, it provides testing centers nearest to the user's location. The user has to type in his or her address on the right side, click enter, and options for different testing centers will pop up. Third, CoTerminator can warn you of cases and high case area zones near you based on your location. Fourth, we include live Covid-19 updates about stats around the world and in the U.S. Fifth, we include a Fake News Video so users aware about this problem. Finally, we have an FAQ section for users with any commom Covid-19 related questions.

How we built it

Co-Terminator has implemented with micro-services pattern with three services: Web, API, Nginx service. Web service built with Flask-a web framework for python- mainly handles user interactions with API services also built with Flask-handles COVID tracker (a system that displays COVID cases by county in your state). We also made a diagnosis system (a system that determines whether you contracted COVID by taking a simple, quick diagnosis test). Finally, Nginx will be the webserver to handles https and https traffic and redirect users to correct pages.

Challenges we ran into

We had many difficulties hosting the website using Google Cloud. Another issue is that the COVID live tracker does not work as intended sometimes due to the SSL secure connection. Also, many issues came with team communication, as everything was online and sometimes it was hard to get a hold of people.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of including many unique features in our project and successfully finishing.

What's next for CoTerminator

  1. Add a feature to predict future pandemics based on global trends
  2. Add a feature to alert users when travel to or near high COVID cases locations.
  3. More accurate way of determining fake news from real news
  4. Improve Co-Terminator’s scalability and distribute to everyone globally
