Inspiration
Our game, Culture Geo, is inspired by the desire to educate, socialize, and connect through cultural exploration. We wanted to create a platform where people can learn about different countries and cultures in a fun and engaging way.
What it does
Culture Geo is an engaging game that challenges players to identify countries based on unique cultural images rather than the typical tourist hotspots. Each round presents a vibrant image that captures the essence of a nation—be it local cuisine, traditional clothing, a famous local figure, or a lesser-known landmark. To enhance the guessing experience, an AI-powered assistant provides insightful hints about the culture, history, and significance of the depicted image. This assistant goes beyond basic trivia, offering fascinating facts about where the country is located on the map, its cultural practices, and even notable festivals or events. What sets Culture Geo apart is its focus on the everyday lives of people and their traditions, moving away from conventional travel imagery. Players will explore the richness of global cultures, discovering that there's much more to a country than just its iconic landmarks.
How we built it
We built Culture Geo using the following technologies:
- Backend: Express.js, JavaScript, and CSS
- AI: AWS Bedrock (Claude from Anthropic)
Challenges we ran into
One of the primary challenges we faced was the scope of our project. We initially aimed to incorporate highly detailed image generation into the game, but we found that this led to excessive hallucinations espicially the free version (Dall-E).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the following accomplishments:
- Developing a game that promotes cultural understanding and connection
- Successfully integrating an AI assistant to enhance the gameplay experience
- Learning and applying AWS and generative AI tools like AWS Q and AWS CloudFormation
What we learned
Through the development of Culture Geo, we learned:
- The importance of carefully considering the scope of a project (avoiding feature Creep)
- The limitations and potential pitfalls of generative AI tools
- The capabilities and benefits of using AWS services
What's next for Culture Geo
Our future plans for Culture Geo include:
- We aim to expand the game’s features to offer tailored challenges based on players' interests and preferences. This could include customized image selections that reflect specific cultural themes or local traditions relevant to the neighborhoods where players live.
- We plan to incorporate social features that facilitate connections between players. This could involve collaborative challenges, leaderboards, and discussion forums where players can share their own cultural insights and experiences, fostering a vibrant community.
- We are exploring additional ways to leverage AI to create immersive learning experiences. This might include dynamic hints that adapt to a player's skill level or interests, and even localized content that highlights the unique aspects of various neighborhoods
