Inspiration

Although ventilator splitters are available on the market, they have issues, including being expensive, transferring pathogens between patients, and not accommodating patients with different lung capacities.

What it does

CustomVent is an inexpensive 3D printable splitter module that is compatible with any ventilator type. It is made of TPU, and contains high quality pathogen filters to block any potential pathogen transfer between patients, and the product utilizes custom sized modular nozzles to provide each patient with the optimal amount of air, making it easy and intuitive to customize.

How we built it

We developed a custom deep neural network architecture to take in commonly collected patient data and use it to determine the optimal nozzle diameter for each patient, ran computational fluid dynamics simulations to optimize the airflow consistency, and developed an app to consolidate these features.
