Inspiration
We were inspired by the movie clueless when the character Cher was using a computer program to mix and match different outfit combinations and pick one to wear for the day.
What it does
We made a prototype that gives a general framework of how our app will look like. There is also a quiz component that can help with fashion recommendations. There isn't an actual algorithm that has been created, although it will be developed in the future.
How we built it
We mainly used Figma to design the front-end aspects of our app. We also used C++ to create a short quiz component to determine the user's initial fashion preferences.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we had to face was learning how to use Figma without any previous front-end experience. We had to do a lot of googling, watching videos, and exploring the platform in order to create our demo. It was frustrating at times as Figma can be stubborn with plugins, but we eventually overcame those struggles and were able to create a working product.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The biggest accomplishment that we're proud of is creating a functional front-end demo along with a C++ back-end portion. We were lost at the beginning of our project, especially with regard to what tools we could use to make our app. We were able to persevere through those struggles in the end, which we are all proud of.
What we learned
We learned how to work with new technologies, like Figma, as a team. We also generally learned a lot about machine learning and AI through our research on AI's effect on the fashion industry.
What's next for CyberCloset
We definitely want to flush this program out with a working algorithm that can tailor recommendations to the user as well as implement a visual AI aspect that can identify articles of clothing based on several characteristics.
