Inspiration

Deserts are some of the most beautiful yet unforgiving environments on Earth. Many adventurers underestimate the challenges of desert travel—extreme temperatures, scarce water, and navigation difficulties can turn a trip deadly. We created Desert Bag to empower travelers with real-time weather updates, survival guides, packing checklists, and a community-driven resource-sharing platform to ensure safer desert exploration.

What it does

Desert Bag is a comprehensive web app designed to help adventurers prepare for and survive desert expeditions. Key features include:

  1. Weather Updates – Real-time forecasts for desert regions

  2. Survival Guide – Essential tips for hydration, navigation, and emergency shelter

  3. Packing List – A customizable checklist for desert travel essentials

  4. Interactive Map – Satellite view with distance measurement for route planning

  5. Resource Sharing – A community-driven platform to find and share water, food, and shelter locations

How we built it

  1. Frontend: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript

  2. Backend & Database: Firebase (Authentication & Realtime Database)

  3. Maps Integration: Leaflet.js for satellite imagery and distance measurement

  4. UI/UX: Responsive design with a desert-theme
