Inspiration

With corona virus coming to an end, more and more people will be out traveling with their friends and families. Vacations are not meant to be spent in the car, but rather in the destination itself. Introducing, destinAAtion.

What it does

A user simply enters a given list of parameter, and destinAAtion prompts them to enter in attractions of their choice. Additionally, users are able to view suggested interest points in their destination city. Lastly, with the itinerary complete, destinAAtion calculates the fastest possible route between their desired locations.

How we built it

The Front End was built in React and the Back End was built in Node JS, Express, and multiple Google APIs.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into included using the Google Maps API in React JS, as well the different documentations of the other APIs we used. Additionally, generating suggested locations was a challenge as we had to utilize Google Places and the American Airlines API to get the most relevant interest points in the area.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our logo looks pretty cool, right? But anyways, the graphic animations on the front page of the website required thorough research. Additionally, we were proud of work it took to connect with the different APISs to accomplish a goal.

What we learned

Besides the entire Javascript language (lmao), we learned how to send and post requests using a REST API. Furthermore, we touched up our CSS skills to make a professional website. Our algorithmic knowledge was also put to the test as we had to curate the shortest route between multiple destinations.

What's next for destinAAtion

In the future, destinAAtion will provide its users with a reservation feature, where the users can go in and book a table or party at a suggested location. Additionally, destinAAtion will provide its users with a trip insights feature that calculates the time and money saved by using our platform. Lastly, destinAAtion will allow its users to select points on the map and automatically add it to the itinerary.
