Inspiration

We wanted to build a more efficient way of letting people know about outages for their favourite websites. Many people do not get up-to-date information from service providers. So what better way to do that than a discord bot. Discord has over 150 million monthly active users, which means that this bot is the easiest way for many people to find out about outages

What it does

Detectorio gives up to date information to Discord users about outages from over 22 million monthly reports

How we built it

We built Detecorio in Javascript using discord.js, node.js and DownDetector API

Challenges we ran into

We couldn't find access to the API at first, so we ended up having to get data from DownDetector using another tool. We were also having trouble formatting the data, which was later fixed through trial and error

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The bot can get data for any website on DownDetector.com, we completed the bot and we extended out knowledge for node.js

What we learned

How learned how to use the discord.js library, we extended our knowledge of Node.js, and we also learned how to use the Downdetector API

What's next for Detectorio

Being deployed in discord servers for everyone to use
