Inspiration

I decided to take on this project on the theme of a favorite cause. There are lots of organizations that aim to provide the necessities but few that work on providing technologies to unprivileged children. I came across a project done by university students in which they designed a portable container filled with laptops for rural children to access. With that idea, I decided to make this website that aims for the same purpose.

What it does

This website raises awareness of the digital divide in countries like Indonesia. It also encourages people to donate to help bridge the digital divide in (in this case) Surabaya, Indonesia.

How we built it

I built it using HTML, CSS, and Javascript. First, I styled how I wanted my website to look on Canva so that it would be easier for me to program later on. I made four pages: home, about, contact, and donate. I looked at youtube videos to help me code my first page (home) and get used to the language. With similar methods and logic, I was able to code the rest of the pages with some help from the internet. For the about page, I was able to research the statistics of people deprived of technology and how it affects them.

Challenges we ran into

Because it is my first time coding in HTML, CSS, and Javascript, I didn't really know how to do much. But, after looking at a lot of youtube videos, I was able to find my way through. One key challenge for me was to make the contact (email and message) because I had no idea how to code in Javascript.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm generally proud that I was able to make my first website in a short amount of time. Although it may not be perfect and idealistic, I am happy with how far I came as I now understand how to code in those languages.

What we learned

Although I'm still short on learning how to code in Javascript, I feel like I know how to code in HTML and CSS now. I specifically learned how to code and style my website using the properties provided. Adding animations to my page was also very eye-opening.

What's next for DigitalBridge

On the contact page, I could only provide the link for Instagram because that is the only social media I have, but later on, I could add links to the rest. Testimonies of people who donated and received the electronics and pictures of happy children from the provision of technology could also be added to the website.
