Inspiration
Museums are a bridge between the past and the present. They allow us to immerse ourselves in what has been, and understand the world around us.
BUT!
In order to access these immersive experiences, you have to travel... queue.. and fight for focus within the crowd.
Dino Dig brings the museum, home. Immerse yourself in history, from the comfort of your living room.
What it does
In Dino Dig, learn how to extract fossils from your own wall, build a personal museum on your living room table, and learn about the past through memorable moments.
How we built it
We build Dino Dig using Meta's presence platform & Unity.
Challenges we ran into
All three members of our team had never used the presence platform previously - we all had to upskill ourselves on how to use it. and how to build in MR.
More specifically, we ran into issues around lack of comprehensive documentation for the Mixed Reality Utility Kit, and how to create portals in walls.
We also ran into significant issues snapping hand poses to objects! This seemed like it should have been trivial, but took several hours to find a solution to.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Correctly placing objects in appropriate locations in mixed reality
- Dino leg crashing through the ceiling!
- Hand poses & general vibes
What's next for Dino Dig
If we were to expand Dino Dig, we'd want to increase the educational aspects of it - namely more explicitly guiding the users through prehistoric eras, and implementing more "wow" moments.
We could also use AI as a side-kick, allowing you to have conversations about the fossils you find.
Upping the visuals, and augmenting user's living rooms further would also add to the immersion.
