Inspiration
Many international students delay medical consultations until winter or summer breaks due to long appointment wait times and high treatment costs. Similarly, people in remote areas and underserved communities struggle with limited access to essential healthcare services, often unable to afford expensive hospital visits. Overburdened hospitals further exacerbate these issues, making timely care inaccessible to those in need.
DoctAid aims to break these barriers by offering a global, accessible, and instant healthcare solution. With AI-powered diagnosis and online consultations, we bridge the gap between caregivers and patients. Our platform reduces doctors’ workload by providing AI-assisted pre-diagnosis, empowering patients with self-care recommendations while ensuring efficient medical consultations.
What it does
DoctAid is a one-stop unified healthcare solution that combines AI-powered diagnosis with instant teleconsultations. Patients receive an initial AI-powered diagnosis for their symptoms, along with preliminary self-care recommendations before consulting a doctor. The AI-generated pre-diagnosis is summarized for quick reference by healthcare providers, facilitating medical history storage and streamlined consultations. Patients can book appointments with a single click, chat with their healthcare provider before consultations, and seamlessly connect to video calls with doctors. After the consultation, prescriptions are instantly delivered to patients.
How we built it
Leveraged OpenAI's GPT model for pre-diagnosis and medical report summarization. Developed the platform using a MERN-based tech stack: Node.js, Express.js, MongoDB, and WebRTC for real-time communication.
Challenges we ran into
Given time constraints, training a dedicated medical AI model was infeasible. Instead, we employed prompt engineering to fine-tune OpenAI’s model for contextual medical responses. As this was our first experience integrating a GPT model into a web application, managing chat context, summarizing medical information, and ensuring accurate AI-driven responses required extensive learning and experimentation.

Successfully built a real-time video consultation interface. Integrated OpenAI’s API, WhatsApp API, and WebRTC for a seamless user experience. Took the first step in addressing a critical global healthcare challenge—starting with our own communities.
