1. 3D Mapping
2. VR Technology
3. Interactive and well designed UI
With COVID19 it has become extremely difficult for college students to socialize and make strong connections with each other. As the academic year is soon coming to an end, students are soon going to have to face the fact that it is going to be hard to find a new roommate that they have a connection with. This is why we created Dorm Match.

What is Dorm Match
Dorm Match is a new application that aims to make university student life much more easier for the incoming years. We use VR and maps to match students with desirable candidates to share a dorm with as well as giving them a realistic vision of what the room looks like and how accessible it is for them.
Here is how it works
Users will log into our site in order to access our features.

A 3D map is shown that visualise all buildings in the area along with information about dorm rooms clicked.

A VR tour can be given of an apartment.

Features
Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality (VR) is a computer-generated environment with scenes and objects that appear to be real, making the user feel they are immersed in their surroundings. This environment is perceived through a device known as a Virtual Reality headset or helmet. VR allows us to immerse ourselves in an environment that is far from real world. (iberdrola.com)
*We used VR to give a virtual tour of the dorm rooms, this is so that college students can tour the room within the comfort of their current housing which eliminates travel expenses as well as COVID issues. We used Modzilla templates to import the room.

3D Mapping
3D mapping, another wonder of modern technology, is a new machine vision technology in the field of cartography. This technique can be easily used to give a product or brand an original and modern profile. There are many different ways to achieve 3D mapping capabilities. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, depending on the intended application, but all can reliably create 3D maps of the surrounding world or specific parts and locations.
We used Web GL js and Mapbox to achieve 3D maps for our interactive web Application

Creation Process
UI/UX
To start our project properly, we decided to create a rough plan of what we wanted and where in order to visualize the outcome of the project. Here are a few pictures of what we designed using Figma.

Technologies that we used :

Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy that we were able to complete a highly complex project within the limited time-space. It is a project we all believe in and would personally love to use - which is a huge accomplishment for all of us!
What we learned
We have learned to be considerate of others as well as communicate effectively.
What's next for Dorm Match
Next up, we plan to test out the application with college students to see how it works for them as well as bring in some features to help disabled students find appropriate and accessible living choices too.
