Inspiration
As college students, the effects of alcohol-fueled parties are prevalent in our lives. But as far as we know, there is no simple and effective way to keep track of your drinking at a party and stay in touch with your group of friends at the party at the same time.
What it does
Each time you take a drink at a party, DrunkMate will add it to the drink counter. This drink counter can be used to set limits on how much you're drinking, which can be set before the party. Additionally, the drink counter is used in combination with your biological sex and weight to give a rough BAC estimate, telling you ultimately how inebriated you are. You can also set a group up, allowing a designated driver or other trusted group member to gauge how drunk the rest of the group is.
How we built it
We built the app entirely in Android Studio. We used PubNub API to set up party groups.
Challenges we ran into
Lack of knowledge about how to make Android apps. Lack of knowledge about how to use the PubNub API. Idea developed late in the hackathon.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Figuring out how to make an Android app. Working with APIs we've never heard of.
What we learned
Establishing servers is kind of hard, and Android app development software isn't as easy to use as it looks.
What's next for DrunkMate
Complete the maps feature. Implement the ability to auto-text the rest of group when you reach your limit, so they can ensure you don't go overboard.
