Inspiration

In January of 2024, a study conducted by DoorDash revealed that 67% of their dashers have used the app to make up for lost income or reduced hours. And in this economy, who can blame them? But picking up just one order and then moving on to the next is time consuming, not to mention a drain on your fuel tank. So our grocery heroes end up registering for multiple apps and picking up a few orders at a time, but in the attempt to maximize profit and increase efficiency the app hopping causes disorganization and confusion. The grocery hero ends up with wires crossed, orders in the wrong location, having to backtrack for items that were missed along the way, and ultimately feeling more like a zero than a hero.

What it does

EasyAisle is a mobile application that allows our grocery heroes to link their delivery platform accounts (DoorDash, InstaCart, UberEats, etc.) into one interface. The app will group the imported orders by the store, placing it into one aggregate grocery list, and use Esri technology the app will configure an optimized route to pick up the products off the shelf. Saving time, energy, and money while giving our grocery heroes a boost in tips for their phenomenal customer service. Now we can put that cape back on.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're really proud of our designer, Chloe Smetanka, for all the hard work she put into designing EasyAisle's company branding and presentation. She faced every challenge we threw at her with a can-do attitude and a smile on her face. Her work is quite impressive, especially considering the timeframe she had to complete it. Rachit, Abhinav, and Ziwei encountered one challenge after the other with the different platforms. However, the three navigated each challenge with tenacity and showed their skill as well as willingness to learn.

Challenges we faced

In order to create the EasyAisle prototype, we had to create our own grocery store map. The integration of the map from ArcGIS Indoors into the app proved more challenging than anticipated, but we overcame this hurdle with the help of mentors and by troubleshooting the issue.

What we learned

From this hackathon, the EasyAisle team learned that creating an app is not a streamlined process. You can set your goals and timeline, but ultimately a lot of flexibility and communication is required while discerning what needs to be explained and what needs a direct answer.

What's next for EasyAisle

In a weekend, EasyAisle was able to help others increase their supplemental income. In future updates you can anticipate a personal grocery list feature being added that does not require using a delivery service. In app you will be able to select the store you will go to, add the products you want to purchase as well as the quantity, and select "Go!" for a quick grocery trip. Need someone else in the house to do the shopping for you? We’ll also create an option to share the grocery list with other users. That way, whether it’s your partner, kid, or crazy uncle you can trust that you’ll get the products you actually want and in a timely manner.
