Inspiration

Several of our team members have firsthand experience working in corporate development environments, where the importance of documenting issues cannot be overstated. This inspired us to create IssueExpress—a tool designed to streamline the process from standup discussions to actionable developer tickets.

What it does

IssueExpress is a web application that transforms text- and image-based conversations into developer tickets, automating the traditionally manual process of creating GitHub issues. By doing so, it saves time and ensures smoother collaboration for development teams.

How we built it

We developed the frontend using Next.js with a Supabase template to kickstart GitHub authentication quickly. Our team divided responsibilities effectively:

Donny focused on GitHub integration.
Michelle and Charlotte worked on Figma designs and assets.
Jake built the ticketing API.
Russell worked on developing components and animations.
Dennis handled routing and user experience. This collaborative approach allowed us to work efficiently and tackle challenges head-on.

Challenges we ran into

We faced several hurdles during development:

Translating Figma designs into an interactive web application.
Establishing a seamless connection with GitHub projects.
Deploying the app within the hackathon's time constraints.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite these challenges, we successfully overcame them through effective time management and iterative design adjustments. We're particularly proud of how we adapted to obstacles and delivered a functional product within the given timeframe.

What we learned

This project taught us valuable lessons about teamwork and communication: Bridging the gap between designers and developers by fostering clear communication. Avoiding workflow bottlenecks by ensuring everyone had defined roles. Reducing merge conflicts significantly by improving coordination across the team.

What's next for IssueExpress

Looking ahead, we aim to expand IssueExpress by integrating it with other popular project management tools like Jira and Notion. This would make our solution accessible to a broader range of teams and further enhance productivity. This version improves clarity, adds polish, and emphasizes teamwork while maintaining a professional tone throughout.
