Group 44 - Tier 1
Edute is a tool meant to help sustainable transportation by providing university students with an easy and convenient way to carpool as they commute to their university.*
Unlike those who live on campus, commuter students have a bit of an inconvenience when it comes to going to and from university. From the time they wake up, to the time when they go home, they barely have any time left for studying and or relaxing. When it comes to prices, students not under a plan with their university can pay upwards of $1000 if they use public transit as their primary means of transport. Clearly, taking public transportation for long hours daily is not socially or economically sustainable for students in a university. This is where Edute comes in.
A good way to save money, energy, and time on a commute is for riders to carpool and share the ride. Edute is a tool meant to simplify forming and finding groups to carpool with a press of a button.
Features
- Drivers can create a carpooling session and post it on the app for users to see. They can describe:
- Starting address
- Destination
- Departure time
- Estimated Arrival Time
- Passenger Availability
- Luggage Details
- Riders can view available carpooling sessions in their area to find one that can help with their commute. Once they find one, they can easily contact the driver and join the ride.
- This tool partners directly with universities to make registration with Edute as seamless as possible
- In case riders and drivers act inappropriately, Edute also allows users to report one another and have moderators review them to ensure that the Edute community is friendly and welcoming.
To use Edute, users must register with a university and their student id for verification. Edute users who wish to be drivers must also provide their driver’s license, insurance, and driving history.
