Inspiration
We believe women understand women the most. Especially when it comes to women in male-dominated fields like STEM or technology, women will sometimes be inevitably assessed by male stereotypes and criteria. Therefore, we wanted to create a platform where empathy, love, and strength come together to uplift and empower one another.
What it does
Emblaze connects women through mentorship and community, offering a space to share experiences, advice, and encouragement. It fosters strong bonds of support for personal and professional growth.
Our current version includes an algorithm that suggests compatibility between a mentee user and other mentors based on mutual skills and interests so that the networking progress can be easier than ever before.
How we built it
We used Python for our backend - implemented OOP and algorithms.
Challenges we ran into
Most of us were extremely unfamiliar with the tools we used in this project, so it took a very long time for us to learn and figure them out. This was our first time connecting a backend with a front end, both of which were written in different languages. We were also trying to utilize PropelAuth, but it didn't work out very well on our machine.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
There have been a lot of first-times for us during this project. We are happy to have met each other, contributed to the women in tech society, and made the most out of this experience.
What we learned
We learned how to add and store data by JSON file, even though it is not the most efficient framework to do this. By researching, we also had a chance to learn more about different types of libraries and frameworks, such as scikit-learn, mongodb, django, etc.
What's next for Emblaze
We aim to polish the front-end side of this project after this hackathon. Moreover, there are some potential features that could be added, such as messages, coffee chat booking, and social news feeds where everyone can raise their voices.
