Inspiration

High school is when students and parents start to find tutors and mentors for their children to extend further and understand their school assignments and the contents. Because I was also looking for a tutor, I thought, "why don't I build an app that allows mentees and mentors to connect?" This saves time and makes it easier for students/parents to find the perfect mentors for their child in different courses in just a single app. It also creates more jobs for mentors and connects them with students without going through a third-party client. And eMentor was developed to help mentors and mentees to connect faster and quicker than ever.

What it does

eMentor is an app that helps people to sharpen their skills with the help of professionals. Each course consists of professionals who are experts in their field. It also allows students/mentees to keep track of their scheduling and booking appointments using the calendar view and interact with mentors when they need help through the chatting system. Mentees can also search for mentors on the market and courses to learn new skills.

  • Calendar View: Allows users to locate and manage their schedule/booking appointments with tutors and not overlap their booking.

  • Chat system: Mentee [ students] can connect with the mentors to ask questions if they need help with their homework or concepts they don't understand. It allows mentees to feel more comfortable with the mentors and reach out for help when needed.

  • Search View: Students or parents can look for different tutors in various courses eMentors offers and look at their links and descriptions to find the perfect mentor match.

Online tutoring offers a lot more flexibility and convenience than traditional tutoring. There is no need to commute, and it can be done virtually anywhere as long as your child has access to the Internet. So, your child does not need to skip a tutoring session even if you are traveling.

How we built it

I used Figma to prototype the app and design the user interface eMentor.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenge I ran into producing the prototype was making sure it felt realistic and straightforward for the user to interact with the app. Another challenge I faced was the design itself. I struggled pretty alot with making the app not only look clean but doesn't feel like it is overloaded for the user and make it look too complicated. I wanted to go for a modern simple, cozy look. Also, the biggest challenge throughout my project was the time difference between the completion dates and different time zones.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am proud of the design and how eMentors looks, as well as the different functions I added. I am also amazed at the prototype I created and how clean and straightforward the app feels.

What we learned

I learned that Figma is a powerful tool for user interface design, and there are many ways to play around with all the tools Figma offers. I also learned during researching tutoring,

What's next for eMentor

Building this app through Swift. If I had more time, I would start programming this idea on Xcode using Swift language and maybe finish the project.
