Inspiration
With increasing numbers of refugees coming across many countries, the importance of being able to access the emergency services at any point is vital.
What it does
The site is a very light weight (<90KB) response in any language with the emergency service numbers for the area.
How I built it
The site runs a simple node.js backend for fetching the numbers and translating the strings, and it fetches all of the numbers from JSON.
Challenges I ran into
Keeping the load size low whilst ensuring it is clear what everything on the site does.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Keeping the total page size <100KB while still being useful
What I learned
Working with AWS is more complicated than I original foresaw.
What's next for Emergen-c
Removing the font-awesome dependency to half the further decrease the delivery size (~25KB after removal)
