Inspiration 🎮
We wanted to make an open world game with cool graphics and lighting. In addition, we wanted to play around with the Unity game engine to create something 3D.
What's it About 🌃
Escape from Polis is an open world game set in a dystopian city. You play as a survivor trying to break the barrier surrounding the city by picking up energy capsules to use in the generator. While trying to find energy capsules, you realize you are not alone.
How we built it 🛠
The game engine we used was Unity which uses C# as its programming language. We used free public assets for our textures and animations.
Challenges we ran into 🧱
This was our first ever 3D game made using Unity. We had a lot of trouble deciding what we wanted to do and ended up wasting a lot of time brainstorming ideas. Github gave us a lot of trouble and we weren't able to upload some files to the repo due to the size of our assets.
Accomplishments that we're proud of ❤️
We added a lot of cool features:
- Double tap to sprint
- Seamless jumping animations
- Enemy Ai tracks and follows players within a certain distance
- Light rendering
What we learned 📚
We are now a lot more familiar with Unity and using C#. Our passion of game development has also greatly increased as we continue exploring our love for video games.
What's next for Escape From Polis 💸
- Menu and Pause screen
- More Levels
- Multiplayer support
- Hopefully publish the game onto Steam
