Inspiration
We have been largely influenced by spy movies and detective crime series thrillers. The theme of this hackathon was a great one to get started with this hack and come up with something interesting that can make life easier for a Spy/Agent.
What it does
This project aims to provide a platform for covert agents/spies to directly send some data to their headquarters database right from the crime scene. EXFOR is connected to the backend storage to which one can send a specific message like exhibit details or suspect findings or any other relevant observations that can help to proceed with the investigation.
How we built it
We created a web app that has a simple UI that can be used to upload some data related to the crime or investigation. Moreover, we have integrated with Twilio as well so that the users can simply drop a text to their secret number (Twilio integrated) that would update the database accordingly with the date and sender details along with the message. We also used API Spreadsheet to perform update jobs on the Google sheet and hosted it using Linode.
Challenges we ran into
We just started working with Twilio this time and we were trying to integrate it for the first time. Initially, we were not able to reserve an Indian number and had to settle for a US number instead. We had a hard time figuring out why the messages were not getting updated in the first attempt and somehow gradually fixed it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are happy that the MVP we thought of is built completely and the project is usable.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate Twilio SMS API to trigger certain tasks. We also learned to hit API endpoints to update google sheets from the UI. We also learnt about hosting static websites on Linode.
What's next for EXFOR
In the next iteration, we plan to include a reminder system that will be implemented using Twilio and would trigger certain appointments or analysis reports or stat collection reminders from the forensics directly to the inbox of the agent/spy.
