Inspiration

The idea for ExoQuest was born from a love of space exploration, resource management, and sustainability challenges. We were inspired by games like No Man’s Sky.

What it does

Players must strategically balance sustainability, optimize travel routes, and adapt to dynamic planetary conditions. Each planet is part of an interconnected network, allowing for strategic trade routes and resource exchange across the galaxy. When travelling to another planet the player can choose to use the fastest path or a fuel-efficient path that is more sustainable. The fuel capacity of the ship as well as the amount of fuel available for refill on each planet is taken into account.

How we built it

Backend : Python, Flask Database : MongoDB Atlas Frontend : React, Next.js, Three.js

Challenges we ran into

Generating the 3D environment with a cluster of unique planets and constraints for placements.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Realistic simulation that makes us reflect on how to do space exploration responsibly.

What's next for ExoQuest

  • Resources that fluctuate with time
  • Economy and reputation systems
  • Trading routes with exchanges
  • LAN Multiplayer
  • Manage resources and conditions to create new planets
