Inspiration
Financial literacy is not taught in schools and many people do not have access to the resources. So we created a website that anyone could find resources and become knowledgeable on financial education.
What it does
Finanza provides various resources such as videos and websites to explain anything finance related. We split the content up based on the Five Competencies of Financial Literacy, and also included two pages for resources geared towards Teenagers and Low-Income families respectively.
How we built it
We coded collaboratively on repl.it, and used vanilla Javascript and HTML to make the frame of the website. Then we split up the work so that a few people would work on styling the website while the others worked on gathering and curating the content to include in it, switching roles as we went. We also used Photopea and Gravit to create our own logo and Coolors to choose a color palette, and the Bootstrap CSS library to make creating a visually appealing site easier.
Challenges we ran into
One major challenge we ran into was adding our personally designed logo onto our website. We were having problems adding it as a file and then resizing it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we were able to create a website despite being beginners. We were all able to collaborate smoothly and help one another when necessary. Additionally, this was all of our first hackathons, and the process went very smoothly considering how new we were to it.
What we learned
Most of the team was actually new to coding, so we learned a lot about web design and how to use stylesheets, and also how to use repl.it. We also learned how to use Bootstrap to make a clean and mobile responsive design. And finally, we learned about how to incorporate themes (in terms of font and color) to make a website visually appealing.
What's next for Finanza
In the future we hope to promote the website further through social media so that it reaches the intended populations. We also hope to work with a finance professional who is able to check our information
