Inspiration
We wanted to create a web app where organizations for social good can connect with good Samaritans so everyone can contribute to the betterment of any community.
What it does
Organizations can use our web app to publish their profile, which includes which organization they are, their contact information, and the stuff they need to continue their mission. Users can access those profiles, see which items are needed where, and decide which organizations they want to donate to, either by donating their own things or shopping online. The users can get in touch with the organization in order to coordinate shipping and let the organization know what items they would like to donate. This way, everyone can contribute to the betterment of any community!
How we built it
We built the frontend using React.js and Javascript.
Intended Functionality + Future Plans
We didn't quite finish the project, so here are some functionalities we planned for the original web app and future plans.
- Once an organization inputs their information and wishlist into the form, then they'll get their own profile on the Organizations page, but the information outputs on the console for now.
- Organization and user authentication
- Organization deletion by the original poster
- Links for the items to buy online or checkboxes to donate
Challenges we ran into
- Deadlines
- React was quite difficult to learn
- CSS Styling
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Shilpita: This was my first time using React, so I learned a lot about this frontend framework and how to use it. I also never built a UI from scratch, so it was a big deal for me.
What we learned
- How to build a frontend using React
- Different social good organizations in the world
