  1. Frauke / mentor gov / EU @ Apr 7th at 4:18 PM on Slack: Especially in times like these, we at the European Commission would like to reduce the burdens that legislation places on businesses and citizens. However, it is difficult for us to (a) get reliable information from the ground, and (b) identify the source of the problem. Businesses are subject to European, national, regional and local rules, so that it is often not clear where the problem originates. And of course, we urgently need to learn which new problems businesses, especially small and medium sized enterprises, face in this Covid-19 crisis that would be sensible to tackle at EU level. Looking for ideas how to gather that intel!

What it does

Makes it easy to flag a problem with a law and suggest improvements.

How I built it

Haven't yet but can be stackoverflow style or easily prototyped on wordpress. Additionally specific laws could be included and have have new clauses / edits drafted in a 'suggest changes' document style.

Challenges anticipated

  • getting law makers to listen
  • getting law makers to change
  • getting usage

MVP

What's the problem? (one line) Details (long text input) Does this law apply to you as an individual, or to an organisation / business? (radio buttons) Country applicable (select) Impact on you (checkboxes) Tags (autocomplete) Should this law be (radio button): tightened / loosened / removed I'd like to see these changes made to this law (long text input)

Then public comments on that post:

  • I have this problem, too
  • my suggested solution - votable up / down
  • if you think you know, vote on where you think problem should be directed (local, national, eu)

Then analyse the results

What's next for FixThisLaw

  • making it real
