Inspiration
We were inspired the difficulty of texting with gloves on as well as a distant family member diagnosed with a condition that causes hand tremors.
What it does
The intention was to enable those with various disorders and diseases such as multiple sclerosis, hyperthyroidism, Parkinson's disease, and rheumatoid arthritis with the ability to type with ease. The app is designed for Android and uses the accelerometer to move the circular keyboard clockwise and counterclockwise depending on the angle at which the phone is tilted until the desired value is found.
How we built it
We used Android Studio as our IDE and Java as the programming language. For images, our lead designer, Lauren, used GIMP and Autodesk Sketchbook.
Challenges we ran into
We had some difficulty trying to figure out how to make a keyboard app register in Android. There was difficulty in getting the image to spin in a circle.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We gained much more experience working with Android Studio and Android apps, an area of programming where none of us had very much experience in. We are also proud of learning how to create a custom keyboard app in Android.
What we learned
We learned how to set-up the xml and java files for a custom keyboard app in Android, as well as how to use the accelerometer in Android.
What's next for Floboard
We want to add multiple languages support to Floboard, as well as solve any odd bugs or errors that happen to pop up.
