Follow Suit

Inspiration

Our inspiration is the difficult job market that students and new grads are currently experience. Stories of having to apply to upwards of 1000 jobs have become all too common. Our simple to use and effective website allows students to fine-tune their resume for specific jobs rapidly.

What it does

Our project gives students a sample resume format that they can use to create their resume in Latex. After they create their basic resume, they upload it and their job description and receive an optimized copy that should help them land their dream role!

How we built it

We built it using the OpenAI API to perform the resume improvements, Latex to compile the .tex documents, streamlit to make our website, and python for all the coding.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge we ran into was getting the latex compilers to work on our local machines. One hacker specifically had a Mac which caused a lot of issues. Another issue was compiling all the technologies together at the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the product we created in this short amount of time. It is a complete project that does work. Some were new to python and how it works, so we are proud of them learning entirely new skillsets!

What we learned

We learned lots about how latex works, how to use different libraries in python, and how to work in a quick timeline. This project was almost more than we could chew off, but we managed to completed to get it done successfully.

What's next for Follow Suit

As the job market gets more and more competitive, Follow Suit has lots of growth potential would be additional resume categories, web-scraping the positions themselves.
