Inspiration
With social media apps such as SnapChat and Instagram, you're able to see where your friends have gone. Although Yelp is mostly known for restaurant reviews, it has started reviewing places as well. We wanted to create an app that focused solely on traveling and seeing where our friends have traveled to. Sometimes Yelp reviews are not trustworthy since we do not know the person who is reviewing the place which is why we are more likely to trust our friend's recommendation of travel and it would be great to see where our friends are traveling too.
What it does
The web app is a combination of Google Earth maps as well as a travel journal to keep track of where you have traveled to and at the same time your friends are able to see where you have traveled to as well
How we built it
We built the web app using Figma and Frontend framework Next.js.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into were having an incredibly hard time with communication since my teammate and I are in different time zones and the tack stack(next.js) we used it for the first time. So it was really difficult to get started.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Accomplishments we are proud of is that we were able to stick with our original idea and put out a product
What we learned
We learned a lot about different types of apps and products that are readily available to make our project and how to shape our product from just an idea to a minimal product. we learned various tech stack and designing.
What's next for FriendView
We want to add other features to it too such as image recognition so that with pictures that your friends post and they forget the location. Image recognition software can be used to recognize where they are.
