Inspiration
Garbage Guru was inspired by the growing global concern for the environment and the need for more efficient waste management practices. The project aims to provide a solution for individuals to properly sort their waste, thus reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and reducing overall environmental impact.
What it does
GARBAGE GURU is a prototype for a waste management tool that aims to make it easier for individuals to correctly dispose of their waste. The idea is that users can take a picture of their waste and submit it to the app. The app would then identify the material in the image and classify it as compostable, recyclable, or neither.
How we built it
GARBAGE GURU was built using Java
Challenges we ran into
Unfortunately, due to time constraints and technical difficulties, I was not able to fully integrate the API into the project.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am still proud of the work done in developing the concept and building a solid foundation for the app in Java in just 10 hours, considering this is my first hackathon and I am a absolute beginner. Even using GitHub was challenging! Despite the challenges we faced, we are proud of the progress we have made on GARBAGE GURU. We believe in the potential for this project to make a positive impact on waste management efforts, and are excited about the opportunity to continue developing it in the future.
What we learned
I learned a great deal about Java programming and the Microsoft Computer Vision API during the development of Garbage Guru. I also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of proper waste management and the role that technology can play in addressing this issue.
What's next for GARBAGE GURU
Going forward, I would like to continue working on Garbage Guru and improving it. I hope to overcome the technical difficulties I faced and successfully use the API to provide more accurate results. I believe that with further development, Garbage Guru has the potential to make a real impact in promoting proper waste management.
