Inspiration
As Floridians, one of the key natural disasters affecting us deals with hurricanes. We wanted to built an app that will help warn our communities about incoming hurricanes.
What it does
The app would enable users to see exactly where they are located and whether they are in the trajectory of the hurricane, based on their phone's location. It also gives guides on safety, how a person can prepare for a hurricane.
How we built it
We used react and native native for the frontend and use expo to connect to our phone. We used Kotlin to get the map generating base on user's phone location.
Challenges we ran into
One of the challenges that we ran into was getting expo up and running since this was all our first time making an app. We also ran into problems with generating a map but we were able to overcome them at the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of and What we learned
We are proud that we can make a functioning app and we learned how to use React, Expo, and implement AI into our project.
What's next for Untitled
The next step for Gator Watch will be to achieve utility like an AI chatbot.
