We wanted to learn new languages and technologies, but it can sometimes be difficult to find good reference projects.
What it does
It bounces you across GitHub repositories according to your preferences.
How I built it
We used Dart to write a web scraper to quickly build up a Mongo database hosted on MongoLab. We then built an API with a ranking algorithm to give the user a good assortment of interesting links to follow.
Challenges I ran into
The MongoLab free tier couldn't handle the speed that the crawler was submitting data, Dart debugging.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Ranking algorithm, UI, GitHub web crawler, and a formidable for loop from our master technician.
What I learned
Chrome extension environments are restrictive.
What's next for gitr.
Migrate to a faster MongoDB host, better ranking algorithm, MOAR DATA.
