Inspiration
We wanted to reimagine what it means to be with someone, especially when they’re far away from each other. We were inspired by quiet museum moments and insufficient ways to make memories with people we miss, and wanted to provide a way to approach as realistic of a simulation as possible to navigate and explore the world together.
What it does
Glimpse of You lets two people explore a museum (or any scanned space) together—live or async, in the same room or across the globe—leaving voice notes, emoji reactions, and memories, while being able to explore by interacting with artifacts in an environment.
How we built it
We used Snap Spectacles for AR gaussian splat capture as well as the host of the experience. We used Lens Studio for real-time interaction and avatar logic, and Gaussian Splatting to reconstruct a real museum. We stitched everything into one simple yet detailed spatial environment.
Challenges we ran into
Syncing sessions across time and space was tricky. It was very difficult to update an avatar in world space to match someone else's position to simulate them existing and exploring the environment together, and subsequently to wirelessly send emotional data that was nuanced into a non-verbal system digitally in real time while also making sure our designs didn't overwhelm the environment we wanted to preserve.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Seeing a real-world museum feel intimate and alive across distance felt surreal. Also, getting our emotionally responsive MuseGhost to track the location of all users in the scene and updating the character models synchronously was a technical and emotional win.
What we learned
AR isn’t just for wow moments—it can be soft, slow, and meaningful. We learned how to use Lens Studio not just to build things, but to shape shared presence with intention. We realized how powerful of a shared experience this kind of world reconstruction can be for catching up with friends and exploring all sorts of environments.
What's next for Glimpse of You
We want to open it up to more places and people—scanned homes, gardens, even street corners. Anywhere you’ve wished someone could see through your eyes. Also adding a library of Gaussian Splats, more environmental interactables to help people explore the scenes, tour guided experiences and scavenger hunt/ gamification aspects, and implementing live audio voice chatting.
