Inspiration
Study anxiety and lack of motivation are something we have all faced as students. So the opportunity to create a fun organizational/educational tool was a no-brainer.
What it does
The web application allows students to login as their gorilla personas to explore an online study hal. We have a silent study hall where students can be motivated by pears working alongside them as well as group study room
How we built it
We used a variety of softwares that were new to us, like Tiled, Auth0, Javascript, Express, Canvas and Photoshop.
Challenges we ran into
We initially planned on implementing a Kintone database but did not end up getting it to work asyncronously. All the challenges of debugging a web game when it came down to creating boundaries, and clearing canvases, were tricky.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We implemented a chat bot for educational assistance and a whiteboard that allows students to visualize their work. Our goal was to centralize daily actions for students without having to manage a million tabs.
What we learned
We learned so much about game development and web design, as well as database creation.
What's next for GorillaGuru
In the future, we plan on taking GorillaGuru to the next and successfully implementing multiplayer functionality. Similar to real life, which means walking up to someone to talk to them. You would be able to text, call, and video call depending on how you feel. GorrillaGuru is meant to be a safe place for all learners and how they choose to interact with peers and teachers. To-do lists, Pomodoro clocks, Spotify integration, are in the future so that you can study with your peers and stay on track with the hectic academic life.
