Inspiration

The inspiration for GradMove stemmed from the universal challenge of relocating to a new city, a process often filled with uncertainty and complexity, especially from a woman's perspective. Whether moving for a job, education, or simply a change of environment, the question "What's the city really like?" gains additional layers, including concerns about safety, access to healthcare, and specific needs such as abortion clinics—factors that are critically important for women but may not be as pressing for men. GradMove seeks to address these unique concerns by providing a woman-centric overview of cities, focusing on cost of living, healthcare quality, safe transport systems, and wage standards.

What it does

GradMove offers an insightful glimpse into the life awaiting you in a new city. It presents detailed, up-to-date information on median rent prices, healthcare accessibility and quality, transportation options, and average wage levels. Beyond mere numbers, GradMove helps users understand the implications of these factors on their daily lives, empowering them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about their relocation.

How we built it

GradMove was brought to life through teamwork, leveraging diverse skills across our group. We split the project into manageable sections—front-end design with Streamlit, back-end logic in Python, data collection through web scraping with Selenium and BeautifulSoup, and chatbot development with API integration—allowing team members to focus on their strengths.

Challenges we ran into

Resolving merge conflicts required us to refine our collaboration and version control skills, ensuring seamless integration of our team's concurrent updates.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our ability to develop an innovative solution to widespread problems with a focus on problems faced by women such as access to healthcare and abortion clinics.

What we learned

Along this process, we learned how to integrate various technologies such as Selenium, Streamlit, and APIs into a cohesive and robust full-stack project which addresses an important problem in almost everyones life -- moving to a new city.

What's next for GradMove

Next, GradMove aims to introduce user authentication for personalized experiences. Additionally, community features will be developed to foster interaction and support among users, enriching the platform with shared insights and advice.
