5pace4 is a passionate individual deeply aware of the environmental challenges we face today. Yet, like many, 5pace4 often grapples with questions about how their travel decisions impact carbon emissions. They seek clarity, simplicity, and actionable guidance to align their daily choices with their commitment to sustainability.

Enter Green Journey, a platform meticulously designed to empower users like 5pace4. It equips them with tools to understand the carbon footprint of their travel options and encourages smarter, greener travel—without compromising convenience or efficiency.

🎨 Inspiration

The idea for Green Journey was born out of a shared determination to combat climate change by targeting one of its largest contributors: transportation emissions. Recognizing the growing need for sustainable alternatives in the face of a changing climate, we envisioned a platform that makes eco-friendly travel accessible and intuitive.

This isn't just about transportation—it’s about making environmental awareness integral to everyday life. For individuals like 5pace4, balancing practicality with environmental responsibility should never be a struggle. Green Journey bridges that gap, making it easier for everyone to choose a greener path.

    Leverage Mapbox for precise route recommendations based on user preferences, minimizing both travel time and emissions.

  • Frontend: Vite, React.js, and CSS for a fast, user-friendly interface.
  • Backend: JavaScript.
  • Mapping & Pathfinding: Mapbox API for dynamic route generation and visualization.
  • Data Models: Custom algorithms for calculating emissions.

🚧 Challenges We Overcame

Since it is our 2nd Online Hackathon, we have faced several challenges, which we tried to overcome.

  • Accuracy: Developing precise CO2 calculation algorithms for diverse transport types.
  • Complex Pathfinding: Optimizing Mapbox for both emissions and time-based routing.
  • User Engagement: Ensuring the platform is engaging, educational, and easy to navigate.

    Display traffic data exclusively for the selected route using the annotations=congestion parameter from the Mapbox Directions API. This will streamline user focus and provide precise traffic insights:
