Inspiration:
We all know that college students often have heavy workloads and often get chased by deadlines. For that reason, not many of us play games often since games require us to pay attention and try to achieve high scores each time we play. For that reason, we want to make a simple game where college students like us can go and play to relieve stress after hard-working time. Inspired by 2048, hacCAThon will be a web-based merging blocks game with all of the cute cats.
What it does:
Since the game is inspired by 2048, hacCAThon would follow the same rules as we continue to slide the blocks to reach the winning condition. hacCAThon will be a relaxing game where we can see a lot of cats. Each time you successfully merge a block, the new cat will appear and relax you with its cuteness. I won't say the ultimate goal of this game is to find the fattest cat but to spend your time in the pool of cute cats and relieve all of the stress you all have during whether it is learning, working, or chasing deadlines.
How we built it:
This is a web-based game so we are using the basics HTML, JavaScript, and CSS to build up this game. First, we start by finding the source for 2048 and understanding how the codes work there. Then, we try to rebuild the game 2048 with numbers. After finishing the base of the game, we started to add cute cats into the game along with the background and cat sounds (occasionally when moving cats about). We are also adding special cats for the player to gain as an achievement when they merge enough cats.
Challenges we ran into:
At first, finding the source codes to learn made the game is not too hard but the problem lies within the original code because they were too hard for us to understand the whole of it. And also all of us are new to hackathons and have just begun our coding journey, we were confused on how and where to start.
Accomplishments that we're proud of:
Making our first web-based game ever.
What we learned:
We learned to read CSS, HTML, JS and write them the way we want. We learned how to create a web with HTML, CSS, and JS and generate it.
What's next for hacCAThon:
After HackHolyoke 2021, we are going to keep learning and perfecting the program and make it into a great web game for everyone (more gameplay, more events, more cats!), and especially students to enjoy their relaxing time with cute cats.
