Inspiration
The idea of a decentralized hackathon platform came from wanting to see how I could improve the existing platforms, and make the whole experience smoother and more efficient. I noticed that there was a lot of room for improvement. For example, a user can loose its projects, progress and valuable achievements in case the site is disabled. The process of handling prizes to winners can become quite heavious, when it could be relaxing because of an automatic distribution of prizes via a smart contract. Having thought about this problems made me realize that this is what I wanted to develop.
What it does
Decentralized hackathon platform where participants will be able browse through hackathons based on their interests, while also ensuring that its progress will not be lost. Participants are ensured that their progress is never lost, a smooth payment of funds to hackathon winners. The hackathon creators must be verified and decided by the DAO.
How would your project work
The project will work with the EOS Blockchain. This is to ensure that transactions are made efficiently and quickly.
- Participant: Will sign up to a hackaton, and upload its submission in the desired time.
- Hackathon creator: Needs to get approved by the DAO to create a hackathon.
How do you envision it being built
I envision the project being built with React JS framework, EOS blockchain and IPFS for a decentralized data storage.
What's next for Hackelope
There are several possible implementations that can be added:
Dashboard for the user where it will be able to see stats such as percentage of success in the participation of hackathon, project views, skills development, etc. This tool will be important for the user in order to track their progress in the development of Web3 projects within the hackathons.
- Ability to host hackathons in different networks. The use of Polygon will be the main focus, but I believe the future is multi blockchain. e.g. A blockchain can organize a hackathon in Hackelope, paying winners in through the use of their own network.
Be sure to check the study case and figma prototype :)
