Inspiration
We were inspired by our desire for productivity along with a self-care mindset. As plant and pet lovers, we included our comforting companions in this gamified to-do list. We took inspiration from the rpg-esque to-do app Habitica that is also structured around gamifying tasks.
What it does
Create tasks, repeatable tasks, and projects with nested tasks. Upon completion, each task rewards a watering can that can be used to water plants. Each plant has its own watering frequency, encouraging the user to complete tasks to water their plants before they wilt. A cat companion accompanies the plants and motivates the user with words. Contains a shop system based on currency earned through achievements, which can be used to purchase more plants.
How I built it
Written in java through Android Studio. We also created the plant assets.
Challenges I ran into
Though we managed to implement the task list, we ran out of time to fully implement other planned features such as the achievement system and the shop.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Implementing a functioning navigation menu.
What I learned
I've only made single-screen apps before, so it was challenging to implement multiple screens and the navigation menu. I learned how to work with Fragments instead of Activities to drive our app.
What's next for Hana
Finish implementing task UI. Fully functioning shop. a hoard of achievements, and self-care messages from your local cat.
