Happy Plant

Maintaining a healthy plant is a difficult task for a lot of people. There is a lot of room for error when considering a plant needs the correct amount of light, quantity of water, temperature, and humidity. If that wasn't hard enough, each species of plant requires a unique combination of those variables in order to thrive.

House plants have been shown to improve quality of life by providing cleaner air and a more relaxed environment. To encourage plant ownership, we set out to create a device that makes caring for a plant more approachable and successful.

What we came up with was a sensor that takes the guess work out of owning a plant. The Happy Plant sensor periodically measures light, soil moisture, temperature, and humidity and calculates how to improve your plant’s environment. This is accomplished by comparing the measured quantities to the ideal growing conditions for your specific species of plant. In this way, a plant owner will not have to guess if their plant has enough water, or hope there is enough light, they will know for sure. Details of their plant's health and environment is be accessible at all times from any device connected to the Internet.

In the future, we'd like to upgrade the Happy Plant sensor by adding a pH sensor. In addition, we'd like to improve the algorithm that determines the plant's health.
