Inspiration

"HarmonyBlocks" is more than a game; it's a meditative journey through music. Inspired by the soothing powers of lofi music and the natural world, we've designed an immersive VR experience where every block, key, and nature element becomes an instrument of peace and creativity. It's a symphony at your fingertips, where the simple act of touching a block can unfold into a beautiful melody, connecting the physical act of hand playing with the spiritual art of music creation.

What it does

Imagine a world where you can literally grasp music. In "HarmonyBlocks," your hands become the conductor's baton. Through the Meta Quest 3 headset and UltraLeap Stereo IR 170 hand tracking, you can touch, move, and play with a variety of musical elements. From auto rotating blocks that loop melodies to nature sounds represented by elements like birds and rain, each interaction creates a unique sound. You control the harmony, crafting your musical piece in a serene, space-like environment.

How we built it

Our journey in building "HarmonyBlocks" was a blend of technical prowess and creative vision. Using Unity and the Ultraleap’s unity package, we've sculpted a virtual space where physics and sound coalesce. The key was integrating advanced hand tracking through Ultraleap’s external camera, allowing for intuitive, natural interaction with our virtual instruments.

Challenges we ran into

Creating a realistic, physics-based VR environment was not without its hurdles. Our main challenge was managing the physics and friction in a zero-gravity-like space. Ensuring objects didn't just float away while maintaining a natural feel to their movement was a delicate balance to strike.

Accomplishments we're proud of

We're most proud of how we've harmonized the physics of interaction and movement with the audio elements. The result is a seamless, smooth experience that feels as natural as playing real instruments, yet as magical as conducting an orchestra in space. We also love the visual effects, which is pretty calming.

What we learned

This journey has been a profound learning experience in understanding the nuances of VR physics, audio integration, and user interaction in a virtual environment. The importance of intuitive design and user comfort in VR has been a major takeaway.

What's next for Harmony Blocks

Looking forward, "HarmonyBlocks" has immense potential for expansion. We envision adding more instruments, soundscapes, and possibly integrating a feature for users to record and share their creations. The ultimate goal is to evolve "HarmonyBlocks" into a comprehensive music production and creation app, accessible to all, regardless of their musical background.
