Inspiration

The recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade has inspired us to create an educational game that raises awareness for women's reproductive rights, specifically the right to access abortion. We believe that it is crucial to educate the public on the importance of this issue and the impact it has on women's lives. Our goal is to create a game that not only informs players about the current state of reproductive rights but also empowers them to become advocates for these rights. We hope to provide an interactive way to learn about the topic and inspire people to take action to protect and defend women's freedom of choice. This decision has reminded us of the ongoing struggle for women's rights and the need for continuous effort to ensure that every person has access to the healthcare they need.

What it does

Our app is called HerChoice, which prompts the user to make decisions for a woman named Shelley, living in Birmingham, Alabama, who wants to get an abortion. The user faces different scenarios and needs to make decisions based on the options provided. Different decision leads to different outcomes, all of which impact Shelley's journey of getting an abortion.

How we built it

We used Android Studio to build a mobile app using java.

Challenges we ran into

As beginners, none of us had any experience with hackathon or app development, which made it really difficult to figure out how to plan the workflow and the entire project overall.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of our collaborative achievements and work together to complete our project.

What we learned

We learned how to work well as a team.

What's next for HerChoice

We would like to implement more scenarios, so users can get a complete view of abortion access in the US.
