Inspiration
We noticed a gap in the online marketplace where small up-and-coming businesses who did not quite have the capital to set up a full-fledged e-commerce platform for their store were missing out on an entire revenue stream and making up for it via setting order-based shops on social media platforms like Instagram or Facebook. We decided to develop an e-commerce website for these brands that is much more lightweight to set up and much more convenient for small businesses to maintain. Most of these businesses used the DM feature for order placement or payment. So the implementation of the Whatsapp API was a clear decision on our part.
What it does
Our platform provides the experience of an e-commerce web app while users are browsing the products and adding to their cart accordingly just as one would on any online shopping platform. Users can use filters to narrow down the results to their preferences once they are satisfied with their choice. Our web app converts their order into a curated message to be sent to the business owner including information like Product name, quantity, no. of different items and the total payment amount. This message is automatically sent to the business owner using the Whatsapp API via the customer's phone number. Thus the order is placed and the customer can easily connect with the seller as required.
How we built it
We first created a basic mockup in the Figma file. Then we created the actual web app using ReactJs and the styling library Material UI. We have used dynamic routing using react-router-dom and used react context API for managing states.
Challenges we ran into
Creating the dynamic routing and linking them to the cart, also for the images part we are planning to reduce the sizes of the images rendered by using some cloud storage like AWS S3 bucket.
What's next for Hiveez Ecom
We are planning to reduce the sizes of the images rendered by using some cloud storage like AWS S3 bucket. Furthermore, we are thinking of making a platform which will target small-scale businesses and help them expand more by providing them with a platform which will help them create a light weighted catalogued websites.
