Hacker Team Member Finder!

You will be given a chance to submit a form through a website containing their name, skill sets, goals and preferences. Through this information, our server-side Java application uses an algorithm to find the most appropriate team members for you!

Inspirations

We struggled to find a full team ourselves, so we thought this would be a great obstacle for many others and have decided to approach this struggle.

What We Learned

Time management skills, how to build a Java project as a team, and how to integrate a frontend and a backend with a database.

Challenges We Faced

From finding simpler alternatives to retrieving Firebase data in Java to never-ending compilation errors, there were a lot of obstacles to overcome.

What Went Well

We were well organized by the beginning with a stern understanding of the architecture of our project. Additionally, each of our roles had a linking part to the next: user input to website, website to Firebase, Firebase to Java, Java to Swing. Having all of our jobs finished, we were able to put ends together to make a prototype.

I worked on linking all of our project components together, integrating Firebase interaction and parsing JSON content that goes in and out of both ends.

Patrick Jung
I worked on back-end coding to sort, organize, manipulate and compare user data. This is my first Hackathon, I learned a lot.

Haowen Rui
I worked on front-end mainly using reactjs and css. This was my first time doing major css work but I learned a lot.

Jonathan Edey
I worked on the back end Java code determining how well each user matches. I also worked on the output GUI using swing where the user can add or decline users that relate to them.
