Inspiration

Icebreaker.ai was born out of personal experience. Our idea man, Georg, is an international student who found it difficult to move beyond small talk and build meaningful conversations with his coursemates. This challenge sparked the idea for a smarter, more intentional networking app.

What it does

Icebreaker.ai is a truly social social-media app—designed to help people meet in real life rather than simply gather followers online. Users can:

  • Search for the exact type of connections they want, using smart intent-based queries (e.g., “I want to meet a tech-savvy person for a hackathon in the wakeboard/kite-surfer community”). The app then suggests profiles based on this search.
  • Schedule in-person meetings using our AI-powered smart scheduler.
  • Break the ice effortlessly with our key feature: three personalized, interest-based icebreaker questions that appear when the meeting begins.

How we built it

We built the website using lovable, some minor adjustments were made using googleai studio for the landing page UI, but as it happens lovable was way faster and accurate than google studios so we chose to build on lovable. all of the functional features are on lovable, databse, integrated ai, meeting settings, etc. We used gemini to increase the accuracy of our prompts.

Challenges we ran into

Biggest problems we ran in to were integrating google calendar functionality which we couldn't sort out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we built a product will use ourselves. It's also great to see that people's faces light-up when we mention our ice-breaking questions feature.

What we learned

That participating in a vibecoding hackaton is very fun and our team members are super cool!

What's next for icebreaker.ai

Next, we plan to develop smarter user profiling using conversational, voice-based AI that learns about users in a natural way. We also want to improve our UI/UX and turn icebreaker.ai into a fully functional mobile app. Further down the line, we aim to integrate Google Calendar, Outlook, and Calendly to book and schedule curated venues to meet other icebreaker.ai users.
