BlinkyFace: A Digital Life with Identity

Our first inspiration was to create a digital life — a new kind of identity.

We started by asking a simple question:
What does “life” mean in a non-biological form?

For us, life is not about looking human.
It is about being meaningful.

So we began by thinking about what humans cannot do.

In situations like earthquakes, humans cannot safely enter small, unstable gaps to search for people.
A compact robot can.

This led us to design BlinkyFace as a robot that can navigate tight spaces and assist in search and rescue.

Helping in Everyday Life

We also realized that in daily life, finding objects is a real challenge for many people — especially for the visually impaired.

By combining vision and voice interaction, BlinkyFace helps users locate items and interact with their surroundings more independently.

Identity and Personalization

As we explored these use cases, another idea became clear:
different users have different identities.

So we made the robot changeable.

BlinkyFace’s eyes and appearance can be customized to reflect a user’s identity, mood, or role.
This turns the robot from a generic tool into something personal.

More Than a Function

That is how BlinkyFace became more than a function.

It became a digital life with identity.
