Inspiration
The concept for this project draws heavily from the thrilling worlds of apocalyptic animes and movies. It's inspired by the idea of a stats bar bracelet that could be a crucial tool for survival in a hostile environment. As a solo developer and student, I aimed to create a sci-fi concept that aids survivors by providing essential functionalities without occupying precious hand space. I was really Intrigue about the topic of this hackathon even with a small timeframe I am dedicated to finish it on time with the best I can.
What It Does
OutLast is designed to be a versatile tool for survivors in an apocalyptic scenario where danger lurks around every corner. It assists with stealth, escape, communication, and overall survival. The device integrates various features to help guide and support the user in a hostile environment, ensuring they can navigate the dangers without sacrificing their ability to carry other important items.
How I Built It
OutLast was built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. As a solo developer and student, the development process was divided into several key stages:
- HTML Structure: Establishing the foundational layout and elements.
- Styling with CSS: Creating an appealing and functional design that aligns with the sci-fi theme.
- Functionality with JavaScript: Implementing interactive features and dynamic screen switching to enhance user experience.
- Final Revisions: Refining and polishing the project to ensure a seamless user interface and robust functionality.
Challenges I Ran Into
The most significant challenge was the lack of time. I began this project just a week after my examinations, juggling it alongside schoolwork and household chores. Designing and implementing the functionality took considerable time, making the process feel rushed at times and super tired.
Accomplishments That I'm Proud Of
I'm incredibly proud to have completed and showcased my very first hackathon project. This experience pushed me to my limits, and I emerged with a deeper understanding of the development process and my own capabilities.
What I Learned
This project was a valuable learning experience in many ways. I gained insights into effective planning and time management, highlighting the importance of these skills in completing a project under tight deadlines. Additionally, I learned the significance of maintaining proper sleep and self-care to ensure consistent productivity and quality of work.
What's Next for OutLast
Looking ahead, the next steps for OutLast include:
- Reporting Alien Sightings: Adding a feature that allows users to report alien sightings, contributing to a community-driven alert system.
- OutLast Module for Enforcers: Developing a module that enforcers can use to strategize and combat alien threats, providing guidance and support in the field.
By continuously enhancing OutLast, I aim to create a comprehensive tool that offers even greater support and functionality for survivors in apocalyptic scenarios.
