The students of IMSA are strong individuals who are able to balance many academic and extracurricular commitments on their plates. But speaking of plates, this rigorous lifestyle comes at the expense of their health and well being. Students often disregard meals and a healthy bedtime to work on assignments. Because IMSA doesn’t require physical education for more than two semesters and not all students participate in athletics, we found many students are also physically inactive. As a platform catered specifically to accommodate IMSA students, our product IMSAfit tackles this issue by focusing on improving students’ diet, physical activity, and sleep. Students can use our app or website to create an account and take a quiz where they give us basic information about their biodata, current lifestyle, and what they’d like to work on. We provide recommendations on when and what to eat for their meals, when they can workout, what workouts they can do to address the goals they set, sleep and wake up times, and a daily water intake goal. We take into consideration your class schedule, meetings and events listed on the student council website and logged by the user, check times, and sophomore study hours to design a personalized schedule for each of our users which can be synced to their google or apple calendars. Our project will be able to help IMSA students maintain a healthy lifestyle and we hope to develop and expand our product to include even more features in the future.
Sometimes it’s easy to forget the importance of maintaining healthy basic life habits that will foster your growth both physically and mentally, an issue that continues to require solutions to this day. In the future IMSAFIT’s concept could even be expanded to fit the academics-centric schedules of other school schedules and address mental health issues.
